WTP3 Processor

The world’s leading performance processor, the WTP3 is the instrumentation choice of America’s Cup contenders, VOR contestants, IMOCA60s and top sailing superyachts.

This Grand Prix level sailing instrument system provides the levels of accuracy and performance demanded by top racing yachts  and sailing superyachts around the world. 

The B&G WTP3 brings new architecture with a central CPU linked to distributed data collection networks – operating at up to 1Mbit on three independent channels.  As a result the possibilities for data collection are hugely expanded, supporting recent progression in both high-end racing and superyacht systems.

Data is processed in the CPU, which outputs display data, transmits serial and digital data for output via modules, communicates with B&G Deckman via LAN and operates an on-board data logger for post-sail data analysis.

WTP3, used as the heart of a system incorporating elements of B&G’s range of displays, sensors and software, allows the creation of the ultimate Grand Prix instrument system.

WTP3 has evolved from the previous WTP processors which are used by Volvo winners, Jules Verne record holders and top inshore racers. With key input from a wide range of professional racing teams the new WTP3 is faster, lighter and adds significant functionality over its predecessors.

Comparison with WTP2

The B&G WTP3 is a replacement for WTP2.  The main changes are as follows:
  • The system architecture has changed from a central CPU with multiple sensor inputs to a more compact CPU collecting data via CAN, Fastnet and Ethernet ports from a series of distributed data collection and processing modules. The CPU carries out all calculations
  • The system weight has been reduced through mechanical design and architecture –a saving of over 5kg is possible for a 50’ yacht
  • Introduces integrated data logging for post-race analysis work.  Data logging operates at up to 10Hz
  • Increased analogue channel sampling rates, now 100Hz
  • Expansion is via the addition of new data modules, no factory fitted internal cards are required
  • Mechanical design improvements ensure maximum reliability in harsh environments, including enhanced protection from water, shock and vibration
  • Fitting of a USB port for data offload and automated software and configuration updates
  • Introduction of diagnostic logs for system events and user configuration errors
  • Backup configurations can now be stored on the unit for rollback
