Galvanic corrosion is a silent enemy that gradually damages metal components in the engine and drive system. It occurs when different metals come into contact in a marine environment, triggering an electrochemical reaction that weakens them over time. Traditional sacrificial anodes offer an important layer of defense, but in many cases, they aren’t enough. That’s why Mercury developed MerCathode – an active corrosion protection system that operates continuously and automatically adapts to changing conditions.
How does MerCathode work?
Connected to the boat’s battery, the system emits a controlled electrical current that neutralizes the processes leading to corrosion. Importantly, it reacts dynamically to environmental changes: the level of protection increases where the risk is higher – such as in saltwater or busy marinas with many boats. MerCathode doesn’t replace anodes; it complements them, creating a complete and highly effective barrier for your engine and propeller.
Protection that pays off
With MerCathode, your engine and drive system remain in excellent condition for many seasons. This means fewer repairs, lower maintenance costs, longer overall service life, and higher resale value. The biggest advantage, however, is convenience – the system operates automatically and requires no user intervention.
The MerCathode system is available through Parker Poland’s authorized dealers.
